• Internship,

Florian ENET, BTS SN student at St. Felix la Salle in Nantes, participates in the development of Super MOOC's first module during his first year internship.

"With Pierre Emmanuel's help, I created a game that allows us to see the importance of parallel computing. It forces us to work with multiple cores at the same time and reveals that even when the usage of X number of cores accelerates our work, it doesn't imply that we work at X times the speed of a single core." - Florian ENET

Scale model of LIGER
Florian ENET, a first-year BTS SN student at St. Felix la Salle in Nantes, just finished his first year internship at ICI. For 8 weeks he participated in the development of Super MOOC's first-week module: "Hardware: An introduction to High-Performance Computing and Super-Computers".

"The creation of LIGER's scale model was my first task." - Florian ENET.

As part of Super MOOC's introductory module, a scale model of LIGER's structure was built to easily demonstrate how a super-computer such as LIGER is built and how it works.

"With Pierre Emmanuel's help, I created a game that allows us to see the importance of parallel computing. It forces us to work with multiple cores at the same time and reveals that even when the usage of X number of cores accelerates our work, it doesn't imply that we work at X times the speed of a single one." - Florian ENET.

The objective of this first module is to make the concept of super-computers and parallel computing accessible to the non-specialized public.

Florian followed an introductory seminar to LIGER's facilities and operating system to get familiar with the subject and to start his work at ICI.

"It was really interesting, especially having a presentation about LIGER's functionality in detail. This gave me a solid background for the construction of its scale model. I couldn't feel prouder about it". -  Florian ENET

Our team work on the creation of this Super MOOC to reach the public in a more accessible manner and to motivate LIGER's usage in the industry, as we managed to do with Florian.

"Having the opportunity to code and watch the game progressing step by step was fulfilling and gave me the will to continue coding. The memories resulting from this internship can't be anything other than positive". - Florian ENET.

Our team is glad to have had the opportunity of having Florian amongst us.
